Welcome to davemoats.com, it is my attempt to share information with the folks that "surf the net". I will try to provide (hopefully) useful tidbits on Information Security, Windows Programming, Windows Scripting, and some other topics that I find interesting.

Originally, when I decided to build this site, I was looking to do nothing more than set up something that I could use in my day job to keep me abreast of the every changing threat landscape (threatscape). At the time all I was interested in was keeping track of virus threats and exploits which might have some relavance to my working environment. That is why the virus page and the security feeds page exist. It is also why this was site started. Since then it has grown some and the information it contains has expanded. I expect that the site will continue to grow and change over time as my interests and knowledge continue to change.

Now a little bit about me. I have been working in the Information Security field since 1998. During the past 10 years or so I have worked on quite a few interesting projects, issues, incidents, everything from combating virus outbreaks to creating and implementing provisioning solutions to performing security assessments to creating one off software solutions required when solving security and windows system related concerns. If you are interested in learning more about my skillsets, you can check out my resume or drop me a note. My career in IT Security has been and hopefully will continue to be very challenging and interesting.

Shortly after High School, I spent 6 years in the Military. Part of that time I was in the Missouri National Guard - 1438th Ribbon Bridge Company and then the US Army - Bravo Company, 62nd Engineer Battalion, as a heavy equipment operator. Definately a life changing decision, one which allowed me to grow and experience things that otherwise I would never had the chance to experience. So there is a section of the site dedicated to our military, mostly talking about my time in the Army and making an attempt to show appreciation for all the sacrifices the members of our Military have made over the years and to remember those who have not made it home yet.

I have some information on books that I have enjoyed reading, these are mostly military science fiction. Also there are some links to computer games that I like playing and links from the RSS feeds on a few game sites. The game section has some Enemy Territory (ET) maps that are available for download.
