Stolen Laptop Exposes 33,000 Patients' Data

It is crazy that this stuff is still going on.

Why is there any and I mean any patient data stored on a laptop? There is no excuse for this.

Didn't we learn anything from the VA exposure that occurred, what 2 years ago?

Protecting yourself from Identity Theft

Today I received a call from a company that wants to help me protect my identity.

That got me to thinking, what can I do to protect myself,

  • check my credit reports with the big three:
  • shred any paperwork that has sensitive information
  • make sure I get the mail from my mailbox in a timely fashion
  • only mail bills from the post office or other secure mailbox

Also I can freeze my credit report so no one but me can authorize new credit.

The cost associated with each item listed above varies by state and credit agency. It may be a fair amount work for someone to do, but it seems feasible.
