Regions Bank Phishing Email

Under the heading of yet another phishing email, yesterday I received an email from Regions Bank asking me to update my information.

This was fairly easy for me to spot since I don't have have an account at Regions. Even if I did have an account with Regions, the standard warning signs were present in the email message, the grammar not being quite right, mention of interruption of service, and the email just didn't read right.

Here is the actual text of the email I received:

Dear valued Regions member:
Due to concerns, for the safety and integrity of the Regions
account we have issued this warning message.
It has come to our attention that your Regions account information needs to be
updated as part of our continuing
commitment to protect your account and to
reduce the instance of fraud on our website.
If you could please take 5-10 minutes
out of your online experience and update your personal records you will not run into
any future problems with the online service.
Once you have updated your account records your Regions account
service will not be interrupted
and will continue as normal.
To update your Regions records click on the following link:
Update Info
Equal Housing Lender Member FDIC© Copyright 2008 Regions Financial Corporation 1-800-REGIONS

Thank You.

If I had clicked the link, it would taken me to:

(link disabled to prevent mistakes)

In any case, a bank would not send you to an unencrypted, a web site using http:// instead of https://, web page that was not on their domain to update your information.

This is just another attempt to gather your personal information so someone can access your financial resources. As always, if you receive a message like this, don't go to the web site, don't reply to it, just deleted it.
